Here’s why India may have missed the 5G bus and it’s a major cause of concern

NEW DELHI: After a considerable amount of hype and years of anticipation, the development and roll-out of 5G – the fifth-generation wireless networks should have been underway in India by now. If you expected 2020 to bring free-flowing data speeds that allowed you to download movies in a blink of an eye, we regret breaking it to you that you’ll have to wait for a couple more years to see that day.

After missing the 2G, 3G and 4G bus, India may have missed the 5G bus as well owing to the recent adjusted gross revenue (AGR) ruling, high spectrum pricing and inadequate 5G spectrum among other industry challenges. Analysts now place large-scale commercial 5G deployments in 2022 and attempts to roll out 5G prior to it would be based on telcos’ fear of missing out, they said.
