Here’s what the telecom sector wants from Budget 2020

NEW DELHI: The telecom sector has sought a slew of measures including reduction in levies and taxes, and bank funding at lower interest rates, saying the Centre’s strategic intervention is required to revive the stressed industry in line with the National Digital Communication Policy 2018.
“We have met the industry as a part of the pre-budget meeting and they have raised issues such as reduction in license fee, USOF charge, and allowing a line of credit,” a Department of Telecommunications (DoT) official said, asking not to be named.
The telecom players sought the government’s support to lessen the regulatory levies including the reduction of Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) charge to 3%, and reduction of license fee from 3% to 1%, as a part of their pre-budget 2020-21 demand.
