Here’s how much increment Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella got
Microsoft’s market capitalisation value hit just over $1 trillion yesterday, which is a testament to how well the tech giant has been doing in the last few years. A lot of credit is given to the company CEO Satya Nadella for ‘reviving’ Microsoft and turning around its fortunes. Now, it looks like Nadella has been rewarded for his efforts. According to a report by CNBC, Nadella has been handed a 66% hike in his salary. The report which cites Microsoft’s annual report filings reveals that Nadella earned $42.9 million (majority of it is in stock awards) in 2018-19. Last year, Nadella had earned just above $25 million in compensation. In 2017, Nadella had earned close to $20 million, which shows that in the last two years, he has more than doubled his salary (including stock awards).
In its annual report, Microsoft noted about Nadella’s compensation “In reviewing Mr. Nadella’s annual equity compensation, the independent members of our Board recognized the benefit of Mr. Nadella’s proficiency as CEO, as demonstrated by Microsoft’s achievements during his tenure.” As per the report, Microsoft’s market capitalisation was $302 billion when Nadella took over as CEO in 2014. It grew to $850 billion as on September 4, 2018, the annual report notes.
