HC dismisses website’s plea for stay on new IT rules

NEW DELHI: The Delhi HC refused on Monday any relief to an online fact checking website seeking a stay on the enforcement of the new Information Technology Rules.

A bench of Justices C Hari Shankar and Subramonium Prasad didn’t agree with the plea by Pravda Media Foundation, parent company of Alt News, that the rules to regulate digital media should be stayed on the grounds that a fresh notice had been issued to them to comply or face coercive action. Other online ventures have also sought an immediate stay.

“We’re not in agreement with you. If you want, we will pass a reasoned detailed order, or if you want we can re-notify it before the roster bench,”
