Handset brands’ high volume strategy bringing smartphone prices down in India: Qualcomm
NEW DELHI: Qualcomm Inc, the world’s top supplier of mobile phone processors and modems said smartphone prices will continue to come down as handset brands drive volumes through economies of scale in India. It expects the Indian smartphone market to grow sub 10% to reach 160 million units in 2020.
“Average selling prices or ASPs are growing globally and India. India is more amplified because the 600-series powered phone, for instance, which was priced above Rs 15,000 is now priced around Rs 10,000. The drop in handset prices is the fastest we have seen,” Rajen Vagadia, vice president and president, Qualcomm India told ET.
