GSMA, O-RAN Alliance join forces to accelerate O-RAN adoption

NEW DELHI: GSMA and O-RAN Friday said they have joined forces to accelerate the industry consensus of adopting open, interoperable interfaces, and the virtualization of radio access network (RAN).

The virtualized architectures with open interfaces can offer some key advantages such as in improving cost efficiencies and in accelerating the deployment of 5G networks.

Additionally, open interfaces can assist in diversifying the supply chain, promoting competition and innovation, like building and operating a RAN based on mix-and-match components from different vendors.
