Govt notifies regulations for telecom towers installations
MANGALURU: The state government notified the Karnataka Installation of New Telecommunication Infrastructure Towers Regulations, 2019, which mandates telecom operators to obtain permission from urban local and panchayati raj bodies before installing mobile phone towers across the state.
Urban development minister U T Khader told reporters here on Tuesday that the government has taken a decision to introduce the regulations, due to a large number of complaints from people. Commissioners of municipal corporations, municipal councils, chief officer of town municipal counils, town pancyats and panchayat development officers of gram panchayats will be the sanctioning authority to permit erect or re-erect telecommunication infrastructure towers (TIT) in their respective areas.
