‘Govt may not have enough time to notify DPDP rules’

The administrative rules that will govern the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act are unlikely to be notified before the end of the current government’s working tenure, sources told ET.

“There won’t be enough time left under the current regime to finally notify the rules even as we may open the draft for public consultations in the coming days,” said one official, adding that the model code of conduct may kick in by March first week for the general elections.

The keenly awaited piece of legislation has huge ramifications for the technology as well as all important sectors of the economy since it prescribes several rules regarding collection, processing and storage of data of Indians.
