Govt clears PLI incentive of Rs 53 crore for Dixon, becomes first firm to receive sops under scheme

New Delhi: Dixon Technologies, an Indian contract manufacturer, has become the first producer of mobile phones to get approval for the disbursement of incentive under the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

The company’s claim for Rs 53 crore for the first quarter of operations — from October to December 2021 — has been approved. It is in the process of filing claims for the remaining period.

The Noida-based company’s proposal was the only one that came up before an empowered group, chaired by Niti Aayog chief executive Parameswaran Iyer, for approval. Although Samsung had also filed claims for FY20-21, the Ministry of Electronics and IT had sought more information from the company and hence its proposal was not put up in the meeting.
