Governments abroad look to model on India’s ‘landmark’ data law

Data Protection authorities in countries such as Norway and South Africa have called the passage of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act a “landmark” regulation, saying the legislation offers “invaluable lessons” to the world on how safeguards can be applied to the global South or any other developing society.

Governments globally including others like New Zealand said they are taking a ‘keen interest’ in not just the implementation of the Bill in the world’s most populous country but also its approach to privacy regulation at large.
