Government to WhatsApp: Submit report on outage in next 4-5 days
The government has asked the instant messaging platform WhatsApp for a report on the outage of its services on October 26. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has sent a letter to WhatsApp asking for reasons behind the outage. WhatsApp services went down for almost 2 hours on Tuesday in several parts of the world. Users were not able to share messages, videos, pictures or make calls on the platform.
Telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the company has been asked to submit a report over the next 4-5 days, giving out reasons behind the blackout. “We have asked WhatsApp for a report, and expect it to come over the next 4-5 days,” Vaishnaw said.
What does the government letter to WhatsApp say
In its letter, MeitY wants to know if the disruption in WhatsApp services was due to an internal glitch or a cyberattack.
