Government to find ‘pragmatic solutions’ for stricter tobacco rules on Netflix, Disney, Amazon Prime
In June this year, streaming platforms, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, JioCinema and Disney challenged the government’s new tobacco warning rules. The streaming giants said that the government’s May order is impossible to implement for them. The health ministry has now agreed to find ‘pragmatic solutions’ for stricter warnings on content appearing on the streaming platforms.
Citing a government meeting record, news agency Reuters reported that streaming executives met officials of the Health Ministry and Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry last month and sought relaxations of the rules. They also wanted more time to comply beyond a three-month deadline.
