Gorilla Glass maker Corning bullish on India; says Google-Jio partnership to accelerate feature phone migration

NEW DELHI: Corning said that the Jio-Google partnership for entry-level 4G and 5G handsets will accelerate feature phone to smartphone migration in India, an area where the US-based Gorilla glass maker sense a bigger business opportunity.

“When we see companies like Reliance and Google and others invest in India, what they’re basically saying is the Indian consumer is very important and they deserve 4G devices, 5G devices, they deserve smartphone devices for getting access to the internet,” John Bayne, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Mobile Consumer Electronics told ET.

Bayne said that the company’s product portfolio is aligned with this goal of providing Indian consumers with access to the internet.
