Google’s action abuse of monopoly, says Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar

NEW DELHI: Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the founder of Paytm, is livid after Google pulled down the popular payments app from its play store (it has been restored since), and accused the American tech giant of “abusing its monopoly” to unfairly gain customers for its own payments business.

He said his business had done “nothing illegal” to warrant the “arbitrary, one-sided action over UPI cashback”, and assured Paytm’s over 300 million customers that their “money remains safe and sound”.

Sharma, who claimed that action against Paytm happened even before they were served a notice, accused Google of a high-handed behaviour where it acted as the “judge, jury, executioner and beneficiary.”
