‘Google PIN as condition of granting bail,’ SC seeks assistance from tech-giant

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday asked Google India to explain the technical aspects of dropping a PIN as a condition requiring an accused to continue to provide information to the investigators in relation with his whereabouts.

The top court was considering a plea whether the condition could infringe on the right to privacy of an individual.

A bench of justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan noted the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) has given an affidavit and has suggested that as far as working of the Google PIN is concerned, it is appropriate if the information is sought from Google India Pvt Ltd.
