Google may let you shop online by just talking to it
Google is reportedly planning to roll out a new feature with which you simply talk to Google Assistant to make payments. This feature is being tested for purchases within the Google ecosystem but the idea is to enable users to simply confirm a purchase by their voice. As per a report by Android Police, Google is running a pilot by allowing users to make purchases in a few categories by talking to Google Assistant.
Only a handful of users have got this new feature. To check whether you have got it or not, head to the Settings menu in Google Assistant and then under Payments if you see a new option called “Confirm with Voice Match,” then you can try it out. Thankfully, Google will be asking for the password of your Google account to activate this feature.
If voice-enabled payment confirmation is rolled out to Google Assistant for masses going forward, then you will be able shop online by just talking to Google Assistant on any smart speaker. One of the major risks of payment confirmation through voice is that someone may actually record your voice to trigger Google Assistant to make payments. So, it would be interesting to see how Google fights challenges like this.
