Google is testing watermark to identify AI-generated images: Here’s how it works, what it means for users, and more

As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, companies are working to harness its prowess and also prevent the spread of misinformation. Google’s AI arm, DeepMind, is testing a digital watermark to detect images created by artificial intelligence in order to combat disinformation.

Currently in beta, the new tool called SynthID is only available to a select group of Vertex AI customers who use Imagen, which is a text-to-image diffusion model developed by Google, similar to Midjourney and Dall-E.
