Google is now officially supporting Chrome OS on old Windows PCs

If you have an old PC that’s running Windows PC, then you may be able to officially run Chrome OS and extend its life. Google has silently acquired Neverware– the company that makes CloudReady which allows old Windows PC users to run Chrome OS smoothly. So, if you have a perfectly working Windows PC which is running obsolete Windows 7 or XP, then you can convert it into a Chromebook.

With Google’s acquisition, CloudReady is expected to work the same way as it did before. The company says that there will not be any immediate changes. “CloudReady will continue to be available as-is, and we’re committed to supporting and maintaining existing customers. Over the long term CloudReady will become an official Chrome OS offering, and existing customers will be upgraded seamlessly as that happens,” said Neverware in an official blog post.
