Google has made a list of things that you must check to avoid COVID-19 related scams
Scammers are taking advantage of the COVID-19 crisis to make a quick buck by duping gullible internet users. These scams could be in the form of fake donations or phishing attacks. In order to keep scammers away, Google has announced the several steps that you should take to stay protected.
“With many of the COVID-19 related scams coming in the form of phishing emails, it’s important to pause and evaluate any COVID-19 email before clicking any links or taking other action. Be wary of requests for personal information such as your home address or bank details,” said Google in a blog post.
Google recommends that you verify the source of an email or SMS before you start interacting with the sender. Also, never reveal any personal information like date of birth, home address or financial details to anyone online without verification. Another useful tip to know whether a message is genuine or not is to copy-and-paste parts of the email that you received in Google search to see whether such email has been reported by someone else or not.
It is highly recommended that you directly visit official websites for correct information rather than believing secondary sources. Also, it is very important that you activate 2FA or two factor authentication in your Google account to increase security.
