Google fixes bug that gave WhatsApp microphone access on Android phones, apologises to users

It was reported last month that some Android users were facing a bug that gave WhatsApp microphone access all the time. At that time, WhatsApp said that it was more of a Google and Android-related problem. “We believe this is a bug on Android that mis-attributes information in their Privacy Dashboard and have asked Google to investigate and remediate,” WhatsApp had said then. Now, Google has confirmed and acknowledged the issue. In a tweet, Google said that “A recent Android bug affecting a limited number of WhatsApp users produced erroneous privacy indicators and notifications in the Android Privacy Dashboard.”
