Global 5G smartphone shipment to reach 278 million in 2020, claims a report
As the world goes on to adapt to the new normal, the global 5G smartphone market is said to witness a decline in 2020, followed by a rebound in 2021, according to a latest report by Canalys. The report suggests that while the overall smartphone volumes are projected to decline 10.7% in 2020 as compared to 2019, it is expected to have a rebound of 9.9% in 2021 with the market set to exceed 1.3 billion units.
In the year 2020, the shipments of 5G smartphones across the world are expected to reach 278 million, as per the report.
Canalys sees the rapid commoditisation of 5G smartphones in mainland China as a critical factor behind the huge 5G smartphone shipments this year. This is said to be followed by North America and Europe making them the top three expected markets for 5G smartphones in the world.
