Gamers, industry bank on new PUBG ‘avatar’ for a revival in fortunes

New Delhi: Back in September 2020, India’s top PUBG player and gaming influencer Adi Sawant aka Dynamo was jolted by the sudden ban of the game which cut his viewership from 70,000 to a few thousands.

But thanks to Krafton Inc.’s comeback with an Indian ‘avatar’ of PUBG, called Battlegrounds Mobile India (BMI), Dynamo’s streams have already started touching 55,000 views and 130,000 likes even before the game’s launch.

“India was just evolving in the esports scenario when Indian players had started participating in international tournaments. The sudden ban of PUBG was a shocker for me and millions of other content creators who had to explore other games,” Sawant told ET.
