Free WiFi at monuments

While the DoT is processing the case of providing free WiFi services at 25 Archaeological monuments (see box-1), three PSUs – BSNL, MTNL & RailTel – have committed to provide free WiFi at five monuments, while 6 monuments they said they can cover on cost sharing basis with ASI (see box-2).
Earlier, on February 8, the telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated BSNL’s free WiFi service in Varanasi ghats. BSNL would be providing free WiFi services, for 30 minutes per 24 hours that visitors can utilise in multiple sessions. After the free usage limit of 30 minutes is exhausted, a customer can continue using the service on a paid basis, for which subscription plans are available in the denomination of Rs 20, Rs 30, Rs 50 and Rs 70 for validity of 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 120 minutes and one day, respectively.
