‘Formula to stagger payment of AGR dues had cabinet nod’
Mumbai: The government on Wednesday said that the Cabinet had approved a formula to recover adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues from telcos over 20 years, after which it had filed an application in the Supreme Court, keeping in mind the interests of 900 million customers.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said he couldn’t comment on the AGR case since it was in court. “But we have to think about 900 million customers. The question that the government has to take is that we have to balance three things — survival of the sector, compliance of the court’s order and interest of consumers”.
