Firms can now claim PLI sops for 5G FWA gear made locally

New Delhi: Telecom gear makers can now claim benefits for locally producing 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) equipment under the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme. The move is expected to boost availability of affordable 5G FWA equipment as operators roll out 5G networks at a rapid pace across the country.

FWA is a good use case of 5G but currently the prices of the routers are very high, hampering its uptake, say industry experts. Once companies start getting incentives for such equipment under the PLI scheme, prices are likely to come down as various local and global firms will start manufacturing the devices here.
