FCC chairman wants the world to follow India’s ‘Tiktok ban’

India’s ban on Tiktok and 100-plus other Chinese apps has often found support from several agencies and officials in the US. The latest to express support is the United States (US) Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner Brendan Carr. In an interaction with Economic Times, Carr said that India’s approach of dealing with Chinese apps through a complete ban is one that other countries across the world should adopt.

“India’s early and thoughtful approach to insecure Chinese apps set a standard that the rest of the world should now follow—and fast,” Carr said. “Apps that are ultimately beholden to the Communist Party of China have a proven track record of surreptitious data collections and accessing more data than necessary for the app to function.
