Fake posts: Karnataka govt plans meeting with representatives of social media companies

BENGALURU : The government will soon hold discussions with representatives of social media sites and platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram among others, to rein in posts that could incite communal violence.

Home minister G Parameshwara said his government is keen to put an end to such posts, but since most of this content is posted by anonymous users and people from foreign soil, the government is finding it hard to bring them to book. He said since social media companies do not “cooperate properly”, the government has decided to call representatives or top executives for a meeting. “We rarely get proper replies to our communications or mails.
