Facing internal challenges: DoT officials concerned over plan to settle OTSC
New Delhi: The government’s move to look for ways to settle the Rs 40,000-crore one-time spectrum charge (OTSC) dispute out of court is facing internal challenges. A section of the telecom department has raised concerns about the move, saying the court cases had been filed after taking legal opinion from the Attorney General (AG), which had said that the DoT was well within its right to contest any adverse rulings.
“There is a view that the decision to go to the Supreme Court (on the OTSC issue) was taken by the government after legal opinion, so would it be right to now settle it out of court?” a person familiar with the development told ET.
