Facebook transfer petition: Company files rejoinder in response to objections raised on its transfer petition

While the next hearing for the Facebook transfer petition is scheduled for October 22 in the Supreme Court, and the court has given the government three weeks to file an affidavit on the status of intermediary guidelines, Facebook has also filed a rejoinder in the Supreme Court in response to objections raised by the Tamil Nadu government on its transfer petition.

Stating that its transfer petition is ‘timely’, and that even though the Madras High Court has abandoned the prayers for Aadhaar linkage and has expanded the scope of the proceedings to focus on traceability, Facebook, in its rejoinder, states that the imposition on intermediaries of a ‘new traceability duty’ presents substantial questions of importance that are better addressed by the supreme court in a uniform manner and with a ‘nation wide’ perspective.
