Facebook takes down Jamia shooter Ram Bhagat Gopal’s account

NEW DELHI : Facebook India on Thursday said that it has taken down the account of the lone gunman who opened fired at a student march against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), injuring one protester outside Delhi’s Jamia Milia Islamia. The shooter opened fire at the group of anti-CAA protestors that was marching towards Rajghat, shouting “yeh lo azaadi” at the group protesting against the newly amended citizenship law.

“There is no place on Facebook for those who commit this kind of violence. We have removed the gunman’s Facebook account and are removing any content that praises supports or represents the gunman or the shooting as soon as we identify it,” said a Facebook company spokesperson.

The gunman, who identified himself as Rambhakt Gopal to journalists just before he was arrested by the police, was live streaming the shooting incident on his Facebook account.
