Facebook CEO’s indirect dig at Apple over importance of keeping users’ data secure

Days after Apple CEO Time took a indirect jibe at Facebook, it’s now the turn of Mark Zuckerberg to respond in kind. Zuckerberg, CEO, Facebook, wrote a long post detailing his company’s intentions about privacy, user data among many other things. One of the things Zuckerberg laid emphasis on was storing users’ data in different countries. He wrote, “People want to know their data is stored securely in places they trust. Looking at the future of the internet and privacy, I believe one of the most important decisions we’ll make is where we’ll build data centres and store people’s sensitive data.”
All tech companies – including Apple and Facebook – have data centres in several parts of the world. China and Facebook have had a tempestuous relationship to say the least. Zuckerberg continued, “As we build our infrastructure around the world, we’ve chosen not to build data centres in countries that have a track record of violating human rights like privacy or freedom of expression.” An indirect hint at China.
