Expensive phones to propel 5G: Qualcomm
New Delhi: US-based chipmaker Qualcomm said 5G adoption in India will be driven by the ongoing trend of increasing average selling prices (ASP) of smartphones as more people opt for pricier devices. It also said the development of 5G market in China will help the Indian ecosystem.
“There’s a big market here (in India) that needs to upgrade. And that sets up the Indian market for 5G growth as well as multiple different use cases that they won’t be able to do without on the phone… the acceleration in India is going to be even higher than what we expected before,” Alex Katouzian, general manger (mobile) at Qualcomm Technologies, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Inc, told ET.
