ETGlobalTownhall: Meeting data demand to be a challenge for telecom sector: Trai’s Sharma

NEW DELHI: One of the top challenges for telecom carriers could be the network scalability to meet the massive data surge, and that would require robust spending in digital infrastructure, India’s top regulatory official Thursday said.

“The biggest challenge before the industry in the next five years would be to meet the growing demand of data communications and support billions of machines or things to communicate, it would not only require huge investments in the digital communication infrastructure,” Ram Sewak Sharma, chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said at the ET Global Townhall.
