#ET5GCongress: 5G FWA a huge opportunity in India as fixed broadband penetration is low: GSMA’s Peter Jarich

NEW DELHI: 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) will be a huge opportunity for telecom operators in India owing to the low penetration of fixed broadband services in the country, according to a top executive of GSMA.

“The end of the last year (2022) to 2025, we expect a 90% per annum growth rate for fixed wireless access services. 5G FWA is going to grow incredibly fast… 5G FWA opportunity in India, that’s going to be really important for the bottom line. I think the market is seeing the opportunity. India matters here because when we look at things such as broadband growth, we look at connections growth for fixed broadband, and we see strong growth in markets like Romania and Brazil. For markets like India, (there is a) huge untapped opportunity for things like 5G FWA,” said Peter Jarich, Head of Intelligence at GSMA.
