Elon Musk tried to take over OpenAI in 2018, but failed: report

Elon Musk, who founded OpenAI with Sam Altman and few other founders, tried to take control of the startup in 2018, failing which he quit the firm and also reneged his massive pledged donation of $1 billion, suggests a report from the news website Semafor.

Though Musk made it clear to Altman that the “venture had fallen fatally behind Google”, it was not enough to convince Altman and other founders.
