Internet shutdown has cost a loss of $1.3 billion to the Indian economy. India is the third most economically affected country after Iraq and Sudan, among 21 countries where major internet shutdowns happened last year. According to a report, India witnessed a total shutdown of 4,196 hours across the country and has imposed the highest number of restrictions more often than any other country in the world, with over 100 shutdowns documented in 2019.
