To protect and give more rights to the consumers who shop online, the government has notified “Consumer Protection (E-commerce) Rules 2020 under which it has been made mandatory for e-commerce players to appoint grievance officer(s), who should acknowledge the receipt of consumer complaint within 48 hours. Also, he should redress the complaint within one month.

The new rules further mandates that the e-commerce companies must display the country of origin and non-compliance will attract penal action. They are also required to mention the ‘expiry date’ of goods offered for the sales and services that are necessary for enabling the consumer to make the informed decision.
