E-comm co to promote art of rural Bengal

Kolkata: Etsy, an online marketplace connecting creative entrepreneurs with buyers across the world, is set to reach out to artisans in rural parts of Bengal and give them a platform enabling them to decide on the prices for selling their products. Currently, around 10,000 creative entrepreneurs belonging to different parts of Bengal have been selling their products — ranging from handloom products, quilts, sari, jewellery and painting — on the e-commerce platform, which was launched in the US in 2005 and introduced in India in 2018.

The e-tail platform connects the creative entrepreneurs with the buyers through social media and charges 6.5% commission from the sale proceeds. “From clay modelling, handloom and textile to jewellery, art and craft, Bengal is home to creative talents in various segments.
