Duopoly not enough for a truly competitive landscape in telecom: Rajan Mathews, COAI

About seven or eight telecom companies have either gone bankrupt, exited the country or are in NCLT. The government has to be accommodative in terms of collectability of AGR amounts, says Rajan Mathews, DG, COAI. Excerpts from an interview with ETNOW.

What is your reaction to the latest directive from DoT and the kind of hammer blow this it is going to be for some of those telecom companies?

The notice that we have received from the DoT is a logical one given the position that the DoT took with the Supreme Court. They won that contested point and therefore the next point is really like asking you to file Income Tax Returns. It is for licence conditions. It is a normal protocol.
