DoT’s new IPv6 transition timelines to hasten adoption: Forum
NEW DELHI: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) revised timeline for the transition of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) would address the need for more Internet addresses following the fifth-generation or 5G technology-backed adoption Internet of Things (IoT) as digital services go mainstream, an industry veteran and chief of the Delhi-based group said.
“Since the current version of Internet Protocol (IPv4) has almost run out of addresses, the 5G and IoT revolution is required to ride on next-generation Internet Protocol (IPv6),” Satya N. Gupta, Chairman, Bharat IPv6 Forum and Secretary General, ITU-APT Foundation of India (IAFI) told ETTelecom.
