DoT simplifies 5G wireless products testing: Official

NEW DELHI: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has simplified the testing method for fifth-generation or 5G wireless products in laboratories with the spectrum available for demonstration purposes at a charge of Rs. 5,000 a year, a senior official said.
“The testing 5G wireless products in labs are now simplified, and can only through a self-declaration, stakeholders can get the spectrum, and need not go through an elaborate approval process,” Kishore Babu, deputy director-general at DoT said at a Webinar, organised by ETTelecom.
Babu further said that for Rs 5,000 a year, stakeholders could get a license for any quantum of spectrum for doing tests in a non-interference mode.
The industry is apparently finding it hard to develop India-specific use cases leading to uncertainty in the adoption of next-generation technology.
