DoT mulls proposal making it easier to migrate from pre-paid to post-paid

Kolkata: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) may soon make it easier for mobile users to switch from prepaid to postpaid connections without having to turn up at a mobile retail store amid the ongoing Covid crisis.

It’s believed to be considering a proposal from telcos to allow conversion of mobile users from prepaid to postpaid platforms digitally, wherein it will be possible using an OTP-based, contactless process to re-validate existing e-KYC (electronic-know your customer) data, industry executives aware of the matter said.

Telcos need to authenticate a mobile user’s identity, address and photographs under the e-KYC verification process.
