DoT may advise BSNL, MTNL to use homegrown gear to trial 4G before commercial deployment: Report

NEW DELHI: The telecom department (DoT) is expected to advise state-run telcos Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited BSNL to take trials of locally developed networks for a few months before zeroing in on 4G vendors, Hindustan Times reported.

The telecom department had earlier constituted a committee to deliberate over the 4G upgrade tender after it was scrapped on 1 July. This came soon after the India-China clash in the Galwan Valley. The decision was also taken in view of giving a push to the Make in India Policy and at the same time, to reduce the involvement of Chinese gear vendors like Huawei and ZTE in the Indian telecom sector.
