Don’t open this ‘email from Microsoft’
The issue of data privacy and security is a major one and since cyberattacks continue unabated around the world, this news is a warning to everyone who exists on the internet with an email account. As per cybersecurity firm Trustwave SpiderLabs, a new malicious phishing campaign is on the rise which emails ransomware-infected file claiming it as a Windows 10 update email from Microsoft so as to infect a system with Cyborg ransomware, reports TechRadar.
How to recognise the malicious email
If users happen to receive an email with the subject line ‘Install Latest Microsoft Windows Update now!’ or ‘Critical Microsoft Windows Update!’, they should not click on it. If you have opened it, there is still a second chance to prevent your system from getting infected by the ransomware. As for the contents of the email, there will be just a single line of text inside the email that says: “Please install the latest critical update from Microsoft attached to this email”. This attachment is a fake one. It may come with a “.jpg” file extension, but instead of being a picture, it is a malicious .NET executable file.that will install the malware on your device.
