Digital Personal Data Protection Bill receives President’s assent

New Delhi: The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, passed by Parliament this week, has received President Droupadi Murmu’s assent, said Union Minister for electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday. The permission was granted by the President on August 11 and it was notified in the gazette the same day.

India, which is one of the largest data markets in the world, will finally get its privacy law. The government is now likely to move on to framing and rolling out the rules and regulations of the DPDP Bill. Officials had earlier told ET that the framing and rolling out of the administrative rules and regulations under the Bill would be done within the next 6-10 months.
