Digital India

Telecom & IT ministry launched the Digital India programme on July 1, 2015. So far, we could hear loud noises only but nothing is happening on the ground. The rollout of much talked about e-Governance services under Digital India depends on the timely rollout of basic infrastructure which is called BharatNet, but that is far from being over.

Under BharatNet (renamed from National Optical Fiber Network or NOFN), the government plans to lay optical fiber cables connecting digitally all the 250,000 Gram Panchayats (GPs).
