Delhi plans 11,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots offering 15 GB data per month
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government will appoint wireless internet service providers to install 11,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots, offering 15GB data per month to every citizen, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Thursday, adding that the initiative was the word’s biggest such project. Tenders will soon be floated to appoint the service providers.
According to state government estimates, the annual cost of the project will be ₹100 crore, and the services could start within the next three to four months.
Providing free Wi-Fi was part of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s 70-point agenda, which was released ahead of the 2015 assembly elections. The announcement comes less than seven months before the term of the Delhi assembly ends.
