Delhi HC notice on plea for removing fake news, hate speech from social media

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High court on Wednesday issued notice to the Central government on a plea seeking immediate action on removal of fake news and hate speech being circulated through social media platforms. K. N. Govindacharya, former political advisor to Bharatiya Janata Party leader L. K. Advani, has filed the plea.

The next date of hearing is on 14 April.

It alleges that fake news being spread through social media by organized rackets is damaging the society and the nation.

The plea asks for a direction to Centre, Facebook, Twitter, Google India, Ministry of Electronics and IT and Ministry of Finance for formal notification of designated officers of intermediaries for acting on it.
