DDoS peak traffic increased 100% between January 2020-May 2021: Nokia Deepfield

NEW DELHI: There has been a 100% increase in daily “high watermark level” Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) peak traffic between January 2020 (1.5Tbps) to May 2021 (over 3Tbps ), with most global DDoS attacks (by frequency and traffic volume) originating in less than 50 hosting companies and regional providers, as per a new report by Nokia Deepfield.

By contrast, as Covid lockdown measures were implemented in 2020, Nokia Deepfield observed up to a 50% increase in DDoS traffic.

The findings noted that in the latest 15 months, the accessibility of DDoS for hire services has increased the threat potential of the existing botnet, Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud-based models.
