Data pros in demand amid privacy debate

New Delhi|Mumbai: Companies across a variety of sectors such as telecom, retail, insurance, banking, financial services and oil and gas are actively looking for chief data officers (CDOs) in the wake of India developing its own data privacy laws and greater talks on data localisation.

Sector watchers said that besides existing large enterprises in telecom, traditional industries such as FMCG and manufacturing, and new-age firms are looking for specialised professionals who can handle data and compliance.

“There’s a 100% increase in demand for chief data officers,” said Aditya Narayan Mishra, director and chief executive officer at CIEL HR Services, which has been sourcing candidates from consulting firms and even boutique firms for meeting this rising requirement.
